ENG SAT ABOVE FLEX TEMP

Post by thierryd »

On my flight out of ENBR today (with ActiveSky) I got the following ECAM message on the ground: "ENG SAT ABOVE FLEX TEMP". The FLEX temperature was 45C and the SAT was 11C. Not sure what might have caused this.

A FLEX TEMP of 45 seems very low at an outside temp arround 11+. What were the conditions and how do you compute the TO Perf. ?

This was calculated with TOPCAT. I had a pretty full load of passengers and more than 17 tons of fuel as I was headed to GCTS. Also, my operator's SOP is to use Flaps 1 if possible.

Here is, what the FCOM say:
ANNUNCIATIONS
Triggering Conditions:
This alert is triggered when the SAT is above the FLEX TEMP.

As i´am understanding, this Annunciation should appear in case the static air temperature is above the entered TFLEX (FlexTemp set in the PERF Page).
So, in case the SAT would be at 45°C or higher

So far it has only happened on that flight. As pointed out by others it is true that FLEX temps are typically higher (greater than 55C on most of my flights). I'll keep an eye out for this and maybe try lower FLEX temperatures as a pure test.
Now I could go back to that particular airport and the weather from that day if that would help.

Out of curiosity, I tried different FLEX temperatures on my departure out of GCTS this morning. Once again I was pretty heavy, with more than 17 tons of fuel, and I typically use Flaps 1 for most takeoffs. The outside air temperature was 22C. TOPCAT calculated a FLEX temperature of 49C. There was no ECAM message with that configuration. Then I started reducing the FLEX temperature by 1C until the ECAM message appeared, which it did at 44C. So it appears pretty reproducible.

I checked, this is happnes you set your FLX TMP below Flat Rating Temperature. This should be somehow computed by Topcat I guess.
I will try to see if the ECAM message is only related to SAT or also to flat rating temperature.
