IITCreator

Post by chris »

Good morning,

Disgusted, this is the fourth time this has happened with IITCreator.

I configure the LEDs, the switches of the FDS A320 (OVHD, ECAM, ETC...), everything is ok, and then when IITCreator reopens the following message:

"Could not convert variant of type (Null) into type (String).

and nothing left in the software, all the settings have disappeared.

An idea ? and above all how to recover all my entered data, is the config.xml file the only one enriched at the time of entry?

What files should be saved after data entry?

Thank you for your reply.

Christian.

The file that contains the data is IIT.xml.
If you have it untouched since last crash post it so I have a look.

Any news to that post? I have the completely same issue. Restartet my complete Project after more than one year of break, now with a cool powerful gaming PC - so as well with a complete clean new installation. But seams that yesterday I "wasted" the whole evening in configuring my OHV LED's. On a restart, just the same error message and ALL ist lost. Even when I rename the file IIT.XML to let it be created automatically and I just do one simple change, save it, close the tool and reopen it, as soon as it seams to load data from the file, the data type error occurs again... No chance to start any setup - sad... Would be very happy, if someone has a solution.

Dear Jean-Luc
Thank you very much for your fast reply!!! I attached you 3 files. The png with the error message, doesn’t matter what I do, I always get the same message when loading the data into IITC.
Opening IITC - Error message.png
IIT_Try-2.xml, this is a plain file created, added one assignment (FCU) and saved it. Reopening IITC throws the error.
IIT_Try-2.xml
IIT.xml is very clean file, removed first the existing one, let it be created automatically by starting IITC, clicking to save (without any assignments). Closing the tool and reopening it already throws again the error…
IIT.xml
Would be fantastic and highly appreciated, if you can give me a hint what to change, that it will run again. Thank you very much in advance!

Hmm this is strange.
In the xml, you have many <board> entries without any <ID>. I would delete those whole nodes.
Are all your devices USBs?
Also how many actual devices are plugged in?

Hello Jean Luc
Yeah, it is really strange. With almost every first start of IITC it comes of with 14 devices, then sometimes with 5 devices and sometimes with 6 devices. I actually have 6 FDS devices connectd, FCU, RMP, XPDR and 3 SYS boards. Yes, these are all "old" Modules, all are USB connected. This is also a reason why I first selected in the installer "legacy" modules, what cause then the error of crashing the software after adding one configuration entry - but that I found quite quickly here in the forum. But just reinstalling did not really help, only a complete cleaning and new installation helped to start configuring, but only when I can catch a startup with the 6 devices... Well, at the moment when I do some config changes I always backup the data files for IITC and controls - just to be sure, I don't want to loose again the full OHD, MIP and PED configuration, it was a lot of work.
So what I see at the moment, when once it starts up correct, it works, but this is not all times the case. Most times when I had the 14 devices startup and I close IITC, I also see in the task manager, that the task still hangs there, even if the tool itself seams to be closed. All your tools will be started as Admin.
I'm running the whole environment on a brand new Machine with a AMD Ryzen 9, 64 GB RAM and a 4080S on Win 11 - just for information.
If I can help in anything with further information to improve the behaviour like logs or whatever, just let me know!
Thanks and have a great start into the week!

That is a bug (the numerous devices) I have noticed but have no explanations. You should indeed make sure you have the correct amount of devices before doing anything or it may save corrupt devices.

Yes, this is exactly what I am doing right now, when I am making some config modifications… ;-) Frequently backup my data files is another thing I currently do now in the setup phase… ;-)
Am I right, I only have to be careful when using IITC, the issue will not occur with normal using the FMGC systems?
Whenever I can assist with any info / test action for further investigation for you, just let me know!

I ahve no idea if the use with the main software is impacted or not, I don't have any hardware to test that.
Please have some tests and check... if you never encounter any issue (while it is frequent with IITcreator) then that would mean that either the bug is well contained in the normal driver, or the bug is only in IIT creator...
but considering the frequency, you should see that fairly quickly if it does not work under normal use.
